Savitribai Phule

Savitribai Phule was born on January 3, 1831 in Naigaon village in Satara district of Maharashtra.His birth place was five kilometers from Shirwal and 50 km from Pune.Sawitribai Phule was the eldest daughter of Lakshmi and Khandji Nevesh Patil, both of whom belonged to the gardener community.

At age 10, Savitribai Fulle was married to Jyotirao Phule, born on April 11, 1827. He was thirteen years old at the time of their marriage. Savitribai and Jotirao had no children of their own but they adopted Yashwantrao, the son born to a Brahmin widow. He was an Indian social reformer, educationist and poet from Maharashtra. 

She is regarded as the first female teacher in India.Along with her husband, Jyotirao Phule, she played an important role in improving women's rights in India. She is considered as the mother of Indian feminism. Efule and her husband established the first Indian girls school in Pune in 1848 at Bhide Wada.
